The need for English teachers in China is set to continue as the importance of being able to speak English is recognised by manufacturers, businesses and schools in a country that is growing in strength as a significant player in the global economy.
BUNAC’s Teach and Travel China programme, for those aged 18 and over, is an ideal opportunity for potential English teachers to learn the necessary skills to become a teaching intern in China, while experiencing the language and culture of this fascinating country over a six-month period.
Participants begin with an intensive, four-week TEFL course in Beijing, combined with an introduction to Chinese culture and customs through group trips, activities and Mandarin lessons. Excursions to The Great Wall and the Summer Palace are included, plus there is plenty of opportunity for travel during weekends and school holidays for those who wish to see more of China during their stay.
On completion of the course, the interns are ready to apply their new teaching skills on a placement in a Kindergarten, Primary, Middle or High School, working alongside Chinese teachers for the following five months. Placements are in locations throughout China and are allocated according to participants’ preferences and suitability.
Accommodation is provided in the school grounds or nearby, as well as meals during training and term time, and a salary/allowance of around £210 is paid per month, plus a completion bonus of approximately £260. At the end of the placement, interns receive their TEFL certificate and a reference from the school.
The programme fee of £2259 covers the six-month experience outlined above, plus BUNAC’s comprehensive service and benefits, which include help and advice with visa application, flight bookings, pre- and post-trip health screening, as well as transfers, discounts, a handbook and phrase book, plus 24- hour support during the trip.
